OnePlus 13s Review: Unboxing the Design, Power, and Performance

OnePlus is undertaking an activity it hasn't engaged in for some time: producing a more compact handset. The firm has verified that their latest product, the OnePlus 13s , is launching globally on June 5. And if that name sounds a little off from the usual, that’s because the phone itself follows a slightly different playbook.

This device is marketed as a petite high-end model, which both OnePlus and many other companies haven’t really explored much lately. The fact that various brands are venturing back into this market segment is encouraging, particularly because we've often believed that smaller smartphones seemed close to becoming obsolete.

The OnePlus 13s isn't completely a brand-new device, as it appears to be a rebadged variant of another model. OnePlus 13T which launched exclusively in China Last month. This isn’t inherently negative and falls within the strategy of Chinese manufacturers to release phones under different names internationally.

Design and Display

As a compact flagship model, it's expected for the 13s to come in a more manageable size. This phone is approximately 12 millimeters shorter than the standard OnePlus 13, measuring about 151 millimeters in height.

It comes with a glass back and a metal frame, which gives it a more premium feel. The front features a 6.32-inch LTPO AMOLED panel, with a 1.5K resolution and variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz.

OnePlus might also use Oppo’s Crystal Shield Glass for durability, and the screen will also have Dolby Vision support. Based on the China-only 13T, the 13s should also come with an IP65 rating, offering some degree of water and dust resistance, though it stops short of the IP68 standard found on more robust flagships.

High-end internals, regardless of name

Inside, the OnePlus 13s is about what you’d expect from a 2025 flagship phone, minus the size. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which is built on a 4nm process and powers several high-end Android devices this year.

The phone will come in configurations of up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. And the company isn’t skimping on thermals either. It houses a 4400mm² Cryo-Velocity Vapor Chamber with an external cooling layer on the back cover to dissipate the heat.

You can expect great satisfaction from the battery life too. The OnePlus 13s could come equipped with the same 6260mAh battery found in its Chinese counterpart. This is quite substantial for such a device, largely due to the advanced silicon-carbon battery technology which offers higher density compared to traditional lithium-ion cells. For rapid charging, it will support up to 80W of wired fast charging.

On the software side, it looks like the 13s will ship with Android 15-based OxygenOS skin. Features like Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, an IR blaster, and an in-display fingerprint sensor round out the hardware list.

There are two cameras at the rear and one at the front.

The camera specs on the 13s aren't aiming to outdo devices such as the Galaxy S24 Ultra or the Pixel 8 Pro, but that's not what this phone is about.

According to model 13T, this device will include a dual-camera system on the back dominated by a 50MP Sony IMX906 sensor equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It also features another 50MP telephoto lens offering 2x optical zoom along with OIS capabilities. This configuration does not incorporate an ultrawide-angle lens. For selfies and videos calls, there'll be a 16MP frontal shooter capable of recording Full HD video at up to 30 frames per second.

Overall, the 13 series will provide clear visuals, optical zoom, and basic features without excessive additional functions. While it likely won't impress with camera capabilities, it also seems not to be striving for such accolades.

The Pricing

Regarding the pricing, OnePlus has not officially announced anything yet. The 13T was introduced in China with a price tag of ¥3,399, equivalent to approximately $446 or around ₹40,000.

International models often see price increases based on local taxes and different storage levels. We anticipate that the OnePlus 13s will be priced between $500 and $600. This pricing could position the OnePlus 13s alongside competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy S24, Google’s Pixel 8, and the Nothing Phone (2).
