Super Micro Set to Boost Production as AI Boom Intensifies

TAIPEI—As global demand for artificial intelligence continues to grow, Super Micro Computer’s CEO has announced that the company intends to increase its server manufacturing capabilities within the United States.

AI demand is increasing at a rapid pace," CEO and Chairman Charles Liang told The Wall Street Journal during an interview on Monday. "We have numerous growth opportunities ahead in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

The server manufacturer based in San Jose, California, might explore increasing production in states like Mississippi and Texas, particularly if President Trump persists with his localization efforts, according to Liang.

In February, Super Micro, a company that provides servers utilized in generative AI, announced its intention to construct a third facility in San Jose.

Liang mentioned that the company is considering production in Texas and Mississippi due to increasing expenses in Silicon Valley. Super Micro primarily manufactures its servers in California.

The firm aims to capitalize on the worldwide AI boom, with companies leveraging this technology to enhance their operational efficiency and productivity. Major players like Microsoft and Amazon have invested substantial sums—billions of dollars—to expand their data center capabilities for training and deploying AI systems globally.

Nevertheless, Super Micro reduced its revenue forecast for fiscal 2025 earlier this month. This decision came about because several customers postponed their server and other computing product orders amid increased economic instability caused by tariffs the U.S. has levied against various nations.

The company that manufactures servers has revised its revenue forecast for the fiscal year ending June 30 downward to between $21.8 billion and $22.6 billion, from an earlier prediction of $23.5 billion to $25 billion.

Liang recognized Trump's attempts to shift the supply chain for advanced semiconductors and AI infrastructure back to the U.S., yet noted that the American president encountered significant hurdles.

“America is quite costly,” he stated. “The country hasn’t focused on production for roughly three decades, hence both its infrastructure and workforce have lost touch with manufacturing roles.”
