Toyota Unveils Cutting-Edge Software in Upgraded RAV4

TOKYO () – On Wednesday, Toyota launched its newest RAV4 and announced that this compact sports utility vehicle will be the inaugural model equipped with their Arene software development platform.

"The RAV4 represents the beginning of our venture into crafting software-defined vehicles," stated Simon Humphries, Toyota's chief branding officer.

For the updated RAV4, the platform has assisted in developing the software for the new multimedia system’s cockpit voice assistant and central display, along with enhanced safety features.

Launched in 1994, the RAV4 has become one of Toyota's most popular models worldwide, with more than a million vehicles sold last year.

Toyota plans to launch the sixth-generation RAV4 in North America, Japan and Europe in the current business year to end-March 2026. It will also have variants with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The plug-in hybrid vehicles will have a battery-only range of 150 km (93 miles).

Toyota is contemplating manufacturing the newest model of the car in the United States rather than following their previous strategy to import from Japan and Canada. This shift aims at reassessing their supply chain strategies to mitigate the impact caused by U.S. tariffs on imported vehicles, according to individuals privy to these plans.

The present iteration of the RAV4 is manufactured in Kentucky, Japan, and Canada.

Toyota stated back then that they had no announcements to make.
