Youngstown's Business Incubator Kicks Off First Advanced Manufacturing User Expo

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) — A local organization is focusing on the future of technological advancements in manufacturing.

Advanced manufacturing is on full display at the Youngstown Business Incubator’s first Advanced Manufacturing User Expo, bringing leaders, innovators and technology experts together for a day of networking and more at the Eastwood Event Centre.

"We're up against China, and if we can unite and collaborate to develop stronger, superior, and more resilient advanced technologies, we have the potential to triumph in this arena," stated Barb Ewing, CEO of YBI.

Vitruvian, a company based in Athens, Ohio, participated in the first-ever event and brought with them their adapted spider crane known as The Scorpion.

“Understanding the level of advanced manufacturing technologies that are in this area and be able to be part of this, not only YBI, but America Makes and this ecosystem — it really does something for not only Vitruvian but the area,” said Stefano Alva, Vitruvian Technologies Director of Operations.

Vitruvian has a 3D printer on the head of its crane, which is used to lay concrete.

"We think that with innovations such as these, we can usher in a new era for construction professionals—individuals who possess strong technical skills, have an appetite for knowledge, and are eager to engage with cutting-edge technology and reshape how we approach building," explained Alva.

Ewing stated, 'Technology is reshaping the globe. It alters the way we produce goods, giving our businesses an opportunity to be at the forefront rather than struggling on the margins.'
